Gypsy love
Gypsy love - ung. Cigányszerelem - is a romantic operetta in three acts by Franz Lehár . The libretto is by Alfred Maria Willner and Robert Bodanzky . The premiere took place on January 8, 1910 at the Carltheater in Vienna . Franz Lehar composed this operetta at the same time as the Count of Luxembourg and the Prince's Child .

For the drama and the romantic mood of the material, Lehár has again used the sounds of the familiar Hungarian gypsy music , but not only the csárdá rhythms or the typical cymbal sound , but above all multiple minor clouding of the melodies and harmonies .

The operetta is set in Romania and Hungary at the beginning of the 19th century .

Zorika's engagement to the charming but rock solid Jonel is imminent. But actually his half-brother, the fiery and flighty gypsy violinist Józsi, with whom she would most like to walk up and away, did it much more to her. At a loss as to how she should decide, Zorika recalls the old popular belief that a girl who drinks water from the Czerna river on the night of engagement can foresee the future. She drinks from the water, is sung to sleep by the mermaid song and experiences in a dream the course of her possible connection to Józsi. Waking up again, she is glad that she only dreamed. She recognizes her true feelings and knows where she belongs: Jonel.
