Zither mana
The zither manae (* 6. March 1947 in Munich as Manfred Zick is) a Bavarian zither player , retired vocational school teacher and a representative of the so-called new folk music .
life and career
At the age of nine he learned to play the zither and later the guitar . He gained his first stage experience in the popular field when he appeared as a guitarist with his father. After completing secondary school (today: secondary school leaving certificate), he began to study at the Munich Polytechnic and later switched to a diploma course at the Technical University. He financed his engineering studies in electroacoustics as a rock musician. After completing a teaching degree for career changers, he began his civil service career in 1974/75 as a trainee lawyer at the State Study Seminar South Bavaria. Afterwards, the civil servant vocational school teacher worked until his early retirement in 2010 as a math and IT teacher and in teacher training, most recently in the position of director of studies . In addition, he continued his career as a musician. His musical role models include such contradicting musical personalities as Chuck Berry , Freddy Quinn , Hannes Wader , Dieter Süverkrüp , Kiem Pauli and Kraudn Sepp .
The Zither-Manä was initially on the road as an interpreter of folk music until a session with two rock guitarists took place on January 6, 1980 at Gasthof Nägele in Wörnsmühl near Miesbach . The zither mana recognized the possibilities of using the zither as an improvisation instrument for rock and blues music . The first solo concert with a mixture of traditional folk music and borrowings from rock music and the typical zither-mana sound of the electronically amplified and distorted zither took place in the Robinson song stage in Munich.
From 1988 the Zither Manä mainly worked with the bassist HH Babe alias Hartmut Hotzel. Since 2007 he has only been on tour solo. In 2012 he received the "Golden Zither", an honorary award for his services to the further development of the zither and the technology. The laudation came from Günther Sigl from the Spider Murphy Gang .
