The Zochagraben is a right and western tributary of the Hambach in the village of Unterhambach (city of Gunzenhausen ) in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .
geography
course
The body of water rises west of Unterhambach in the Scheipelhuft forest , near the border with the district of Ansbach at an altitude of 400 m above sea level. NN . After about 400 meters it leaves the forest and flows through an open landscape to the east. It feeds two ponds and then crosses, partly canalised, the village of Unterhambach. After a run of around 1.1 kilometers, the Zochagraben joins the middle reaches of the Hambach from the right on the eastern edge of Unterhambach.
Catchment area
The catchment area covers about 1.6 km², it extends from the mouth in Unterhambach about 2.75 kilometers west to its highest point northeast of Kleinlellenfeld ( 427 m above sea level ). Its north-south extension is a maximum of almost 800 m. The southern border forms a hill ridge, which roughly follows the route of the Limes . Below that, the Heggraben runs roughly parallel and flows into the Hambach a little further down the stream. To the north of the catchment area border, a small stream flows just below Oberhambach to the Hambach. In the west the higher and more important watershed runs over the plateau northeast of Kleinlellenfeld; the area behind it drains over the Dennenloher See into the Wörnitz .
About 700 meters west of the source of the brook, in the Kleinlellenfeld district , there are three ponds with a total area of 0.4 hectares in a clearing in the Wettlach forest . They are located in the valley basin of the Zochabach and must also drain over this according to the natural gradient.
The western part of the catchment area lies in the sub-area Hahnenkamm-Liasgürtel of the natural area foreland of the southern Franconian Jura , the larger eastern part in the sub-area Ornbau-Gunzenhäuser Altmühltal of the Central Franconian Basin . More than half of it is wooded, and the open corridor is dominated by fields. The greater part of Unterhambach lies at the mouth, otherwise it is uninhabited.
