Zombina and The Skeletones ( ZATS for short ) are a British horror punk band from Liverpool that was founded in 1998 under the name The Deformed . Typically for the genre, their music contains elements from rockabilly , doo wop singing and surf rock .
Band history
The singer Zombina and the guitarist and songwriter Doc Horror first met in 1998. After realizing that they had similar musical and cinematic preferences, they began to write their own songs. This led to the release of their first demo No Sleep 'Til Transylvania in 1999 , then under the band name The Deformed .
This demo already contained songs like The Grave… And Beyond! , Braindead and Leave my Brain alone , which both musically and in terms of content are reminiscent of early works by Misfits and The Cramps and later became popular Zombina and The Skeletones songs. When they first appeared in 1999, Doc Horror let the audience decide whether the band should continue to be called The Deformed or continue under the name Zombina and The Skeletones . The audience chose the name Zombina and The Skeletones , which the band has been using since then. In 2002 the release of their debut album Taste the Blood of Zombina & The Skeletones followed .
In 2003 the band started a rock 'n' roll club night called "Useless" in Liverpool, where the band performed every week. The series of events was later renamed "Zombie Hop" and took place at the Heaven and Hell Club in Liverpool. A little later the club night was discontinued.
The single I Was A Human Bomb For The FBI was released in 2004 as a 7 ″ vinyl, two more 7 ″ copies followed. This was followed by appearances with The Damned , the Misfits, The Meteors , Wednesday 13 and Jayne County in Great Britain, as well as a short tour of Germany. The band also recorded an "Unsigned Band" session for BBC Radio 2 .
In late 2006, Death Valley High was finally released . This concept album tells the story of the imaginary student Janie Spencer and her experiences on Death Valley High . In the same year the band headlined the Lumous Gothic Festival in Finland . In 2007 you were one of the headliners of the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig . In addition, the Troma Entertainment film Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead was released in 2006 , to whose soundtrack Zombina and The Skeletones contributed the song Red Planet from their debut album.
In 2008 the band signed a recording contract with the German label Fiend Force Records , which released the album Out of the Crypt and into your Heart on Halloween of the same year , which was recorded in 2007. The follow-up album Charnel House Rock was released under Ectoplastic Records in 2014 . In the same year, the group released Love is Strange , a single with the participation of Argyle Goolsby , the former singer and bassist of Blitzkid .
