Zona Franca (Barcelona)

The Zona Franca in Barcelona (also Catalan Polígon Industrial de la Zona Franca ) is an industrial and logistics district in the district of Sants-Montjuïc . Associated with it are the Parc Logístic de Actividades Logísticas (Spanish Zona Franca de Actividades Logísticas ). The Zona Franca is strategically located between the port and the airport of Barcelona and is bordered by the Autovia C-31 .

Adjacent cities are El Prat de Llobregat and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat . The L9 line of the Barcelona Metro, which is currently under construction , will be led to the Zona Franca and will connect it with the city center and the rest of the city.

Company in the Zona Franca

  • In the Zona Franca, one of the first car factories in Spain was completed by SEAT, which was founded in 1950, in 1953 and production began. The SEAT 1400 A rolled off the assembly line there first. 5 vehicles were made by almost 1,000 workers a day. After the takeover of SEAT by Volkswagen AG , production was relocated to the new headquarters in Martorell . Today (August 2011) around 1200 workers in the SEAT halls only punched sheet metal parts for four models.
  • A special feature is a collection from SEAT in building 122, which contains all vehicles and prototypes produced by the company to date. In 2011, the preserved vehicles were not accessible to the public.
  • The company Nissan Motor Ibérica is based in the Zona Franca and produces the Nissan Pathfinder model here .
  • The Spanish subsidiary Bruguer of the global AkzoNobel group has one of its three locations for the production of paints in the Zona Franca.
  • The Abertis company (Abertis Infrastructuras, SA) operates the Zona Franca and is based here.
