As of 2010, the number of employees at Nissan Motor Ibérica was 5200. In the record year of 2008, production was 132,149 vehicles. Nissan uses the acronym NMISA for the company .

Development of the company

The history of the company goes back to 1980 when the Japanese company Nissan Jidōsha KK acquired a 55 percent majority stake over the Spanish company Motor Ibérica SA . With this step, the cooperation with the rival companies Jeep and Alfa Romeo was ended. Only the brand name Ebro remained in use until the end of the 1980s. The work began in the founding year with the mass production of the Ebro L-series , a medium-duty truck. With a large selection of equipment variants and different structures for industrial companies as well as for medium-sized companies, the company managed to build up a regular customer base. A few years later, export to neighboring countries could already be started. The previously produced Ebro P-series was discontinued, while the Ebro F-series continued to be produced. From 1982 the Datsun Cabstar was later produced Nissan Cabstar , which was offered outside Europe as the Nissan Atlas . In 1982, with the Datsun Prairie , the production of passenger cars finally began , which was followed by the Datsun Micra from autumn 1982 and by the Nissan Patrol from the beginning of 1983 . In 1986 the production of the Nissan Vanette C 22 Van and the Nissan Vanette Cargo II C22 began. In 1987 the Ebro F-Series became the Nissan Ebro Trade, from 1990 to the Nissan Trade . This was available in various designs for civil as well as commercial use. The model was only available in Spain. The now Nissan Ebro L-series was meanwhile available in the Benelux through Nissan dealerships. In the late 1988 production of the new generation of the off-road vehicle Patrol started parallel to the technically revised previous generation. In so-called badge engineering , the latter was offered in parallel as a Ford Maverick for the UK , Australian and New Zealand markets . This was only available as a left-hand drive. The Prairie was also replaced by a new generation in the same year and from then on bore the model name Prairie Pro in Europe . The production of delivery van models of the Vanette C22 (only as a glazed van and station wagon) was also started. With the Nissan Terrano , another off-road vehicle was established on the European market. At the beginning of the nineties, due to increasing competition, Nissan was forced to replace the now technically outdated Nissan Ebro L-series and brought a revised version onto the market, which was also available from German and Austrian dealerships from 1995 . Here the model was initially known as the Nissan L-series and later as the Nissan Eco-T . In 1991 the production of all Nissan Vanette C22 versions was stopped, only the Nissan Vanette Cargo II C22 was produced until the end of 1994. In 1992, the Nissan Serena was the second minivan. At the same time, the assembly of the new Terrano-based Nissan pick-up began . In Spain itself it was initially known as Navara , but in some other countries the name Frontier also caught on. It was not until around 1997 that the model name was standardized within Europe to the model name Pick-up. Around 1993 the export of the now revised Nissan Trade to Germany was started. In the same year, production of the Nissan Terrano II began , which was also sold in Europe as the Ford Maverick (Europe) . The following year, the Nissan Vanette E appeared as a delivery van version of the Serena. From January 1995 the Vanette Cargo III HC23 was also produced on the basis of the Serena, and from 1996 also as a 5-seater minibus version. In the mid-1990s, the new Nissan Pathfinder was also established in some markets. However, this was mainly only offered in Spain and the North American countries. From 1997 there was also a panel van version of the Terrano II for the Spanish and English market and an 8-seater minibus version of the Vanette Cargo HC23. For the following year there was the Terrano II as a special Icelander model . This was specially designed for off-road use. The new vehicle was the Nissan Cabstar . The new Patrol GR also celebrated its premiere in 1998. The last models of the previous millennium were the new generations of the Ford Maverick and the Nissan pick-up in 1999. The first European Nissan models of the 21st century were the Nissan Almera Tino and the Nissan Atleon . As the successor to the Prairie Pro, the Almera Tino continued the minivan series in Europe. In 2001 production of the more popular Serena and Vanette Cargo HC23 ceased. As the successor to these models, the Nissan Primastar was introduced, which is produced in the minibus version by Nissan Motor Iberica . The Vanette E was produced until the end of 2002. A successor was only available from summer 2003 with the Nissan Kubistar built by Renault . In February 2002, production of the Interstar minibus variants began . The Interstar replaced the Nissan Urvan and the Nissan Trade in the model range , which were only built as a flatbed truck until 2004 for the Central European market. The off-road vehicles Nissan Navara and Nissan Pathfinder have been built since January 2005 and expand Nissan's European product range. The next generation of the Cabstar was produced from 2006 to 2013, as was the sister model Renault Maxity, which largely corresponded to the Japanese Nissan Atlas. The revised pick-up was launched in Spain in 2008. As the successor to the Nissan Kubistar, the Nissan NV200 has been produced since 2009 and the Nissan Evalia , a minivan based on the NV 200, since 2011 . The Nissan NV400 built by Renault replaced the Interstar in 2010. The Atleon received a successor in mid-2013 with the Nissan NT500 and is also produced as a Renault D-Truck . In 2014 the Cabstar was replaced by the Nissan NT300 / 400 , which is also being built again as the Renault Maxity. Since then, the 2nd generation of the Nissan Primastar has also been produced in the standard versions by Nissan Motor Ibérica. Just like the Nissan Pulsar (Europe) developed in and for Europe as the successor to the Nissan Tiida . In the port area of Barcelona, the upgrading and rebadging (relabelling) of the imported vehicles will also be carried out in accordance with European regulations. For example, the Nissan 100NX (Pulsar NX), Nissan 200SX (Silvia), Nissan 280ZX (Fairlady Z), Nissan 300ZX (Fairlady Z), Nissan 350Z (Fairlady Z), Nissan 370Z (Fairlady Z), Nissan Almera (Pulsar ), Nissan Bluebird , Nissan Cube , Nissan Laurel , Nissan Maxima QX , Nissan Note (Tone), Nissan Pixo , Nissan Primera , Nissan Stanza (Stanza / Auster), Nissan Sunny and the Nissan X-Trail .
