occupation

Zoning is a 1986 film that speaks out against dehumanization in big cities.

action

In a skyscraper there are not only offices but also apartments. Two thieves make use of the so-called "zoning". This means that when these high-rise buildings were built, planning errors and subsequent changes in the construction plans resulted in zones that are not included in the construction plans and are therefore not intended for monitoring. It is from such a room that the two thieves start their raids. Since both thieves were previously employed in the building, they can exploit known weaknesses in the security system.

Location

The location of the film, at least the scenes that take place in public and in the entrance area of the skyscraper, is the Illinois State Center in Chicago. Interestingly, this building is not actually a skyscraper, but a kind of enclosed space with a gigantic atrium. The building opened in 1985 just before filming began. According to an interview on the DVD of the film Zoning , they tried unsuccessfully to find a suitable location in New York, but then turned to the futuristic and then ultra-modern atrium of the Illinois State Center all the more enthusiastically. The interior shots were made in a film studio in the Ramersdorf district of Munich . The scenes were in the Munich district Neuperlach rotated. The extras and their firearms were provided by a Munich security service.

Reviews

"A representation of alienated existence in modern architectural monumental structures, which loses its effect due to the lengthy plot and undifferentiated characters."
