Zosia Russell Mamet (/ ˈzɑːʃəˈmæmɨt /; born February 2, 1988 in Randolph (Vermont) ) is an American actress and singer . She is known from television series such as Mad Men , United States of Tara , Parenthood and played Shoshanna Shapiro on the HBO series Girls .

Life

Mamet is the daughter of the American playwright, essayist, screenwriter and director David Mamet and the actress Lindsay Crouse . Her maternal grandfather was the playwright Russell Crouse and one of her maternal great-grandfathers was the educator John Erskine. She has a sister, Willa, who is a photographer, and two half-siblings, Carla, who is also an actress, and Noah. She describes herself as a Jew . Her father is Jewish and her mother is a Buddhist . She lived in New England until she was five. Her mother then moved to Pacific Palisades, California with her and her sister. After graduating from high school, Mamet decided not to go to college but to become an actress.
