Location and history

Information board at the house

The slate house in today's Ronsdorf district (residential area Ronsdorf-Mitte / Nord ) is located on Remscheider Strasse (corner of Kocherstrasse ) between the Catholic. Church of St. Joseph and the Prussian Bandweaver School , both of which are just a few meters away on the other side of the street. The former restaurant Rheinischer Hof just opposite no longer exists. Immediately adjacent is the listed building at Remscheider Strasse 35 .

The building was erected before the end of the 18th century on the western edge of the planned town of Ronsdorf. Past the house a connecting path led from the center up towards the stable to the then Kohlenweg , the main route from the first coal mines in Märkischen country (southern today Ruhr ) to the particular in Leyerbachtal , in Morsbachtal and space Remscheid located iron hammers , forging and metalworking companies across the ridge to the west led.

In the plan of the town of Ronsdorf by surveyor J.W. Buschmann from 1781 it is marked at the intersection of Remscheider Straße (which was only laid out as a plan road around 1780) with the old path towards Stall.

Description and current use

The house on Remscheider Strasse in Ronsdorf

The rather low and now fully slated, eaves - standing half-timbered house has one and a half floors , with the top floor being used as an apartment. A number of years later, a single-storey extension was built on the rear, also with a half-timbered construction that was slanted towards the outside. Due to its hillside location, it rises above a man-high basement, faces the street “Am Stadtbahnhof” and houses a smaller hall. An Italian restaurant is now located on the ground floor of the building, which has apparently been used for catering since it was built.

Monument protection

The entire building was entered on May 16, 1989 under the number 1608 in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal.
