Zumbis do Espaço ( Portuguese for: Zombies from Outer Space ) are a Brazilian horror punk - band from Taubaté in the state of São Paulo .

Band history

Until 1999

The three friends Tor, Zumbilly and Gargoyle founded the group in 1996 in Taubaté. Their shared passion for horror films, B-movies and comics has since been reflected in the Portuguese-read texts of the group, which is considered the most important Brazilian horror punk band .

They recorded a first demo with four tracks. Then they were given the opportunity to release an album. They recorded more pieces and their debut A Invasão (Eng: The Invasion) was released in 1996. On February 15, 1997, the band first appeared in public at Black Jack , an underground concert club in São Paulo . Gargoyle then left the band for personal reasons, and former Street Bulldogs musician Fábio "El Phantasma" Balbo took over bass for him. The group recorded their first EP in 1997 , Clássicos do Inferno (German: Hell's Classics). In 1998 they appeared on MTV Brasil's Ultrasom show and released their second EP, Pesadelo Brasileiro (German: Brazilian Nightmare).

In 1999 El Phantasma was killed in a traffic accident, and the band stopped their activities. Gargoyle returned to the band a little later, and they decided to release the EP O Despertar da Besta (Eng: The Waking of the Beast) in memory of the deceased. The group resumed its activities and brought out the album Abominável Mundo Monstro ( Eng .: Abominable Monster World) at the end of 1999 . The title is an allusion to the well-known title of the book Brave New World (port .: Admirável Mundo Novo) and the corrupted book title Admirável Brasil Novo (Eng .: Admirable New Brazil) by Ruy Tapioca .

2000-2009

On December 9th, 2000 the band recorded their first live album in Hangar 110 in São Paulo. In 2001 the live album was released under the title O Mal Nunca Morre (English: Evil Never Dies), and they played with Marky Ramone & the Intruders at a number of his concerts in Brazil. On the first day of the Festival des Thirteen - record label of the singer Tor in Hangar 110, the Zumbis do Espaço also performed. For the songs Prostíbulo do Inferno ( Eng : brothel of hell) and Vampira , two go-go girls came on stage, which led to violent displeasure among feminists and subsequently to discussions in the Brazilian punk scene.

In 2002 their album Aberrações Que Somos ( Eng .: Irritating Deviations That We Are) was released, which the band saw as an important step in development in terms of songwriting and sound. In the same year, a compilation of their previous albums with two previously unreleased pieces was published in Germany under the title Spiele des Horrors 1996-99 . In the same year they recorded a piece for the short film Crônicas de um Zumbi Adolescente (Eng .: Chronicles of an Adolescent Zombie), and a version of the play Verme for the tribute album for the Brazilian Oi! - Punk band Garotos Podres on.

This was followed by a split CD with the Brazilian punk band Grinders, on which both bands cover each other and well-known punk songs. In 2004, the band appeared in the MTV show Gordo a Go-Go by Ratos de Porão singer Gordo, and recorded a new album on which they also incorporated elements of country music . The album, released in 2005 under the title Aqui Começa o Inferno (Eng: Hell begins here), was her biggest success to date and caught the attention of the country's music press. At their concert on 1 September 2005, the band recorded then in Live Club Vegas in São Paulo their first DVD entitled Ao Vivo em Vegas (dt .: Live in Vegas), which in addition in May 2006 with interviews, video clips of the band and of the solo project of the singer Tor appeared. In 2009 the group went into the studio for a new album. On August 1st, 2009 the band played their last concert with guitarist Hank Alien in the Bar do Zé in Campinas . Renato Machado now joined the group for him.

Since 2010

In 2010 Destructus Maximus appeared , which u. a. was recorded with Korzus guest musicians. In addition to the CD version, there was also a black vinyl LP with an extra song. In May of that year, their sold-out albums Horror Rock Deluxe and Aqui Começa o Inferno were released as digipacks with bonus pieces and liner notes . They also played at the traditional Halloween festival in Hangar 110, which took place from October 29th to November 1st that year. The recordings came from her appearance in 2009 at Hocus Pocus in São José dos Campos .
