Tāʾ ,تاء, is the third letter of the Arabic alphabet and (as Te ) the fourth of the Persian . It emerged from the Phoenician Taw and is therefore related to the Latin T , the Greek Tau and the Hebrew Taw . The numerical value 400 is assigned to it.

Sound value and transcription

The Ta corresponds to the German T in "S t adt", it is not aspirated (not breathed in) and is therefore softer than the aspirated German "T" in "Theodor". It is shown in the DMG inscription with a "t".

The Ta is a sun letter , i.e. h., a previous al (definite article) is to at- assimilated.
