Tha Realest |
---|
Jevon Jones (born on November 10, 1974 in Dallas, Texas) is a rapper best known as Tha Realest and formerly Tenkamenin The Vigilante. He was formerly signed to Suge Knight's Death Row Records. He is known for having a remarkably similar voice to that of deceased rapper Tupac Shakur. Songs of his have been mistaken for Tupac songs (notably with the single "Fuck Dre," which has frequently been attributed to Tupac), even to the point of being used as 'evidence' that Shakur faked his death. Many 2Pac fans dislike him for biting many of 2Pac's lyrics, tattoos, style and even for dissing many rappers 2Pac used to diss before his demise. One member of the Outlawz Young Noble, dissed Tha Realest for stealing many of 2Pac's lyrics, style and even to the point of calling him an impostor.
Jones signed to Death Row Records in 1996. He appeared on the soundtrack to film Gang Related under the name Tenkamenin (taken from an African king). In 1999 he appeared on Suge Knight Presents: The Chronic 2000, alongside fellow Death Row rappers Swoop G and Lil C-Style. He would team up with them again on Death Row's Too Gangsta for Radio compilation, on the tracks Fuck Dre and Fuck Hollywood.
Tha Realest left Death Row Records in 2002 [1] to form his own record label, Omerta Entertainment. In 2004, he recorded an album at Can Am Studios with Mob Life Records rapper 730, entitled From East 2 West which is set to be released in 2007. Tha Realest signed to Tru 'Dat' Entertainment in 2006, a company founded by Hysear Randell to seek and recruit talented individuals in film, music, fashion and sports. In 2007, Hysear was accused of embezzling millions of dollars worth of tax payers money through fraudulent money transfers (see Tru_'Dat'_Entertainment#Tax-scam_controversy). Tru 'Dat' Entertainment closed their doors a few weeks later [2]. Tha Realest is now trying to release his highly anticipated album Witness Tha Realest on his new record label Relentless Entertainment. It is set to feature guest appearances by other rappers, among them, Yukmouth, Fat Joe, Dru Down, C-Bo, WC, Edi, Napoleon, Devin The Dude, Swoop G and more[3].
Tha Realest is also a member of The Regime, a large collective of rappers including Yukmouth, Tech N9ne, Gonzoe, Dorasel, Dru Down, Grant Rice and Messy Marv among various others.
The music video for his debut single, Eurry Now and Then, can be seen on his official website. It features cameo appearances by C-Bo, Yukmouth, Nutt-So, Young Hogg, Big C-Style and Ray J[4].
