Keith Appleyard was played by Ian Redford. Keith is the father of Angela Harris. When she and her family lived in Sheffield, she witnessed a murder. Keith persuaded his daughter to tell the truth and testify against the criminals at the trial, which resulted in the Harris family having to move to Weatherfield under the name of Nelson in witness protection.
Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The books chronicle the adventures of the eponymous adolescent wizard Harry Potter, together with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, his best friends from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The central story arc concerns Harry's struggle against the evil wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's parents in his quest to conquer the Wizarding world, after which he seeks to subjugate the Muggle (non-magical) world to his rule. The stories have inspired films, video games and other themed merchandise.

Keith first appeared in Coronation Street three years later in 2005 to help his daughter after her husband Tommy had been murdered. He stayed in Weatherfield for support and ended up looking after his grandchildren Katy and Craig after their mother was arrested for the murder of their father. Katy (the real killer) committed suicide after the guilt got too much for her, and Angela was imprisoned for helping Katy cover up the crime. Keith decided to move to Coronation Street to look after Craig, rather than taking Craig back to Sheffield with him, as he felt Craig had suffered enough - plus, Weatherfield was closer to Angela's prison than Sheffield was.
Since the release of the first novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, which was retitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the United States, the books have gained immense popularity, critical acclaim and commercial success worldwide. As of June 2008, the book series has sold more than 400 million copies and has been translated into 67 languages, and the last four books have consecutively set records as the fastest-selling books in history. The seventh and last book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released on 21 July 2007. Publishers announced a record-breaking 12 million copies for the first print run in the United States alone.

Since moving in, Keith has started dating Audrey Roberts, who is his exact opposite in many ways. Keith is always watching the pennies, and has recently taken up a paper round to earn some extra money. His hobbies include taxidermy.
The success of the novels has made Rowling the highest-earning novelist in history.

Viv is the mother of Danny Baldwin. She was first seen on the street in July 2005, following her husband Harry's death and later revealing to her brother-in-law Mike that he was in fact Danny's biological father, not Harry.

Universe
In December 2006, she returned enquiring about her son's disappearance, only to find out the truth about her grandson Jamie's affair with his former stepmother Frankie Baldwin. After finding this, Viv stormed back home to London.
The Wizarding world in which Harry finds himself is both completely separate from and yet intimately connected to our own world. While the fantasy world of Narnia is an alternative universe and the Lord of the Rings’ Middle-earth a mythic past, the Wizarding world of Harry Potter exists alongside that of the real world and contains magical elements similar to things in the non-magical world. Many of its institutions and locations are in towns and cities which are recognisable in the real world, such as London. It possesses a fragmented collection of hidden streets, overlooked and ancient pubs, lonely country manors and secluded castles that remain invisible to the non-magical population of Muggles. Wizard ability is inborn, rather than learned. Most wizards send their children to Wizarding schools to learn the magical skills necessary to get along in the magical world. There is no educational equivalent to college or graduate school in the Wizarding world. After graduation from their magical school, students are considered fully-trained witches and wizards who are ready to take their places in the Wizarding World. It is possible for wizard parents to have children who are born with little or no magical ability at all (known as "Squibs"). Since one is either born a wizard or not, most wizards are unfamiliar with the Muggle world, and what they do know of the Muggle world is either inaccurate or patronising.

Warren Baldwin was played by Danny Young. Warren is the youngest member of the Baldwin family. He is the younger brother of Jamie and son of Danny and Frankie. He turned up on the cobbles to live with his parents and due to the fact that he was rejected from his football club. He was later in the doghouse after his family members found out about this. Candice Stowe later found out that he was not really a footballer and that Warren had been telling fibs to impress her, resulting in Candice dumping him. Later Warren joined Weatherfield County FC, and Candice decided she wanted to date him after all. In August 2005, Warren left Coronation Street to play football and start a new life in Spain, leaving Candice behind after they split up. He made a surprise return to Weatherfield on 20 November 2006 when he was back in England for trials with Port Vale, which he failed. Warren moved away to Spain again, and in early December 2006 his mother went to visit him to see if he had heard from father Danny. She also revealed her affair with Jamie to him, a revelation which resulted in Warren stopping talking with his mother.
The novels are very much in the fantasy genre, and in many respects they are also bildungsromans, or coming of age novels. They can also be considered to be part of the British children's boarding school genre, which includes Enid Blyton's Malory Towers, St Clare's and the Naughtiest Girl series, and Frank Richards's Billy Bunter novels. The Harry Potter books are predominantly set in Hogwarts, a fictional British boarding school for wizards, where the curriculum includes the use of magic. In this sense they are "in a direct line of descent from Thomas Hughes's Tom Brown's School Days and other Victorian and Edwardian novels of British public school life". his tendency to snub the Harry Potter books in interviews and refer to them as inferior literature may be the reason he did not return to work on later books in the series. The Turkish translation of books two to seven was undertaken by Sevin Okyay, a popular literary critic and cultural commentator. For reasons of secrecy, translation can only start when the books are released in English; thus there is a lag of several months before the translations are available. This has led to more and more copies of the English editions being sold to impatient fans in non-English speaking countries. Such was the clamour to read the fifth book that its English language edition became the first English-language book ever to top the bestseller list in France.

Jimmy was eventually able to trick Ronnie into driving out to a deserted farm. He held her at gunpoint, and she agreed to give their marriage another try when he nearly killed her and Steve. Lloyd Mullaney rescued them, but Ronnie was then distant with Steve since the ordeal. She moved out of his house and into a flat of her own to show her independence.
Completion of the series
In December 2005, Rowling stated on her web site, "2006 will be the year when I write the final book in the Harry Potter series." Updates then followed in her online diary chronicling the progress of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with the release date of 21 July 2007. The book itself was finished on 11 January 2007 in the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, where she scrawled a message on the back of a bust of Hermes. It read: “J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room (652) on 11 January 2007.”

on 31 May 2006 After having a row with Steve, Ronnie called Steve on her mobile while driving, and not concentrating on the road, ran over an elderly man and killed him. Instead of calling an ambulance, Ronnie drove away. The next day Ronnie saw in the paper the news about the dead man and felt even more guilty. She tried to blame Steve for the accident, but was eventually caught and arrested.
Rowling herself has stated that the last chapter of the final book (in fact, the epilogue) was completed "in something like 1990". In June 2006, Rowling, on an appearance on the British talk show Richard & Judy, announced that the chapter had been modified as one character "got a reprieve" and two others who previously survived the story had in fact been killed. She also said she could see the logic in killing off Harry to stop other writers from writing books about Harry's life after Hogwarts. On 28 March 2007, the cover art for the Bloomsbury Adult and Child versions and the Scholastic version were released.

Sarah Manners was originally offered the part of Ronnie, but turned it down because of her other work offers. Emma Stansfield was only contracted until Christmas 2005, but had her contract extended for another 12 months because her character initially proved popular. She was axed by new producer Steve Frost.

Rowling spent seventeen years writing the seven Harry Potter books. In a 2000 interview through Scholastic, her American publisher, Rowling stated that there is not a university after Hogwarts. When asked about writing other Harry Potter-related books similar to Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, she has said that she might consider doing this with proceeds donated to charity, as was the case with those two books. Marcus Dent was played by Charlie Condou, he was initially a sonographer at Weatherfield General Hospital, introduced when Violet Wilson went for a scan. He gave his number to Sean Tully who was also present at the scan. The two started dating but Sean was unsure how the relationship should progress. Sean tricked Marcus into revealing the sex of the baby to him after he wanted to know and Violet didn't. This led to a rough patch in the relationship, but was overcome and the couple remained together happily. Marcus and Sean delivered Violet and Sean's son when Violet went into labour in The Rovers on 22 February 2008. He was by the side of Maria Connor as she gave birth to her stillborn baby in April 2008. Marcus quit his sonographer job to try to find more fulfilling employment. He and Sean planned to move into their own flat, but Sean briefly lost his job at Underworld putting their plans on hold.
The series has also garnered a large following of fans. So eager were these fans for the latest series release that bookstores around the world began holding events to coincide with the midnight release of the books, beginning with the 2000 publication of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. On 27 August 2008, Eileen Grimshaw received a call from Todd saying that he had seen Marcus in a nightclub in London, in the company of another man. Eileen subsequently told Sean who initially dismissed it but became increasingly more paranoid and angry. Marcus was set to leave the show in September as part of a love triangle. When Marcus discovered that Sean made a pass at Tom Kerrigan, he punched Tom after he suspected that Sean had slept with him. Marcus later told Sean that he was fed up of Sean's jealousy and called a cab to take him to London. Sean pleaded with Marcus but he said an emotional goodbye to Eileen, Maria and Liam and left for London, leaving Sean devastated.

Liz became more keen on Derek as Vernon's lazy behaviour started to annoy her, and she continued to feel this way even after she got engaged to Vernon. The fact that Derek is married even failed to throw her off. When Vernon was supposed to be meeting Liz for dinner he became too drunk to turn up, so she phoned Derek and asked him to join her. When he showed up they both had a good time and, on the way back to The Rovers, Liz and Derek shared a passionate kiss for the first time. After this Liz continued to play around with Derek and eventually slept with him for the first time after he booked a hotel room for them both. The two then later agreed to continue seeing each other after Derek showed up at the pub pretending to be delivering.

In November 2007, the magazine Advertising Age estimated the total value of the Harry Potter brand at roughly $15 billion (£7 billion). Sundeep "Sonny" Dhillon was played by Pal Aron. Sonny was Michelle Connor's millionaire boyfriend. It came to light that Sonny had relationship history with Sean Tully, in that they had previously been dating each other, with Sonny admitting to being bisexual. On the Streetcars lads night out Steve McDonald spotted Sean and Sonny kissing. In late February 2007, Sonny proposed to Michelle. While she was in The Rovers celebrating, a jealous Steve told her that Sonny was gay, however, she did not believe him. When Michelle's brother Liam Connor heard of Steve's allegation, he confronted him, with Steve sticking by what he saw. An unsure Liam questioned Sean at work with Sean claiming nothing was going on. The same day, Liam and his brother Paul Connor confronted Sean a second time, forcing him to tell the truth. They then frogmarched Sean to the pub to tell Michelle the truth. Sean did so, with Michelle bursting into tears, shocked at what she was hearing. An oblivious Sonny arrived at Michelle's that night, ready to take her out. A crying Michelle told Sonny she knew about him and Sean, before giving him back her engagement ring. Sonny then left in shame.

When Michelle's son Ryan Connor discovered the gay affair, he stole Sonny's car and took it for a joyride. The police found out but Sonny didn't press charges. After Michelle discovered the affair, Sonny went to Sean but Sean didn't want to know. Sonny walked out of number 11 and hasn't been seen since.

Literary criticism
Early in its history, Harry Potter received positive reviews, which helped the series to grow a large readership. Upon its publication, the first volume, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was praised by most of Britain's major newspapers: The Mail on Sunday rated it as "the most imaginative debut since Roald Dahl"; a view echoed by the Sunday Times ("comparisons to Dahl are, this time, justified"), while The Guardian called it "a richly textured novel given lift-off by an inventive wit" and The Scotsman said it had "all the makings of a classic".

Jackie Dobbs
By the time of the release of the fifth volume, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the books began to receive strong criticism from a number of literary scholars. Yale professor, literary scholar and critic Harold Bloom raised criticisms of the books' literary merits, saying, “Rowling's mind is so governed by clichés and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing." [[A. ===Doreen Fenwick===
The critic Anthony Holden wrote in The Observer on his experience of judging Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the 1999 Whitbread Awards. His overall view of the series was negative — "the Potter saga was essentially patronising, conservative, highly derivative, dispiritingly nostalgic for a bygone Britain," and he speaks of "pedestrian, ungrammatical prose style."

Doreen Fenwick was played by actress Barbara Young. The character was originally introduced in February 2007 as an old friend of the long running character Rita Sullivan. This is Young's second role in the soap; she had appeared in 1981 as a character called Dot Stockwell.
By contrast, author Fay Weldon, while admitting that the series is "not what the poets hoped for," nevertheless goes on to say, "but this is not poetry, it is readable, saleable, everyday, useful prose". The literary critic A.N. Wilson praised the Harry Potter series in 'The Times', stating: "There are not many writers who have JK’s Dickensian ability to make us turn the pages, to weep — openly, with tears splashing — and a few pages later to laugh, at invariably good jokes...We have lived through a decade in which we have followed the publication of the liveliest, funniest, scariest and most moving children’s stories ever written. Charles Taylor of Salon.com, who is primarily a movie critic, took issue with Byatt's criticisms in particular. While he conceded that she may have "a valid cultural point — a teeny one — about the impulses that drive us to reassuring pop trash and away from the troubling complexities of art", he rejected her claims that the series is lacking in serious literary merit and that it owes its success merely to the childhood reassurances it offers. Taylor stressed the progressively darker tone of the books, shown by the murder of a classmate and close friend and the psychological wounds and social isolation each causes. Taylor also pointed out that Philosopher's Stone, said to be the most lighthearted of the seven published books, disrupts the childhood reassurances that Byatt claims spur the series' success: the book opens with news of a double murder, for example.<ref name="A.S. Doreen arrived in February 2007 as an old showbiz friend of Rita Sullivan. She was initially disliked by Rita's business partner Norris Cole whom she insulted upon first meeting him. Shortly afterwards Rita let Doreen stay with her as Doreen told her that her flat was being repaired. On 18th May 2007 however, Rita discovered that Doreen was faking her flat being repaired and removed of asbestos. Rita then told Doreen to pack her bags and leave. On 28th May 2007 Rita confessed to Norris that she was missing Doreen's company but refused to make the first move. Norris secretly arranged to meet Doreen and persuaded her to make up with Rita. The two made up over a drink in the Rovers Return. More recently she has been helping out in The Kabin whilst Rita was on holiday. After Norris had proposed and received a decline from Rita, he then went on to propose to Doreen, only to discover that both George Trench and Ivor Priestley had already done so too, after some persuation from Rita, Norris later declined his own proposal to Doreen, she then went on and declined both George and Ivor's proposals too, stating that she had changed her mind about getting married again.

Doreen never officially left, but after deciding to stay single she disappeared and has not been seen since.
Stephen King called the series "a feat of which only a superior imagination is capable," and declared "Rowling's punning, one-eyebrow-cocked sense of humour" to be "remarkable." However, he wrote that despite the story being "a good one," he is "a little tired of discovering Harry at home with his horrible aunt and uncle," the formulaic beginning of all seven books. King has also joked that "Rowling's never met an adverb she did not like!" He does however predict that Harry Potter "will indeed stand time's test and wind up on a shelf where only the best are kept; I think Harry will take his place with Alice, Huck, Frodo, and Dorothy and this is one series not just for the decade, but for the ages."

Washington Post book critic Ron Charles opined in July 2007 that the large numbers of adults reading the Potter series but few other books may represent a "bad case of cultural infantilism", and that the straightforward "good vs. evil" theme of the series is "childish." He also argued "through no fault of Rowling's," the cultural and marketing "hysteria" marked by the publication of the later books "trains children and adults to expect the roar of the coliseum, a mass-media experience that no other novel can possibly provide."

Harry Flagg was played by actor Iain Rogerson. Harry worked at Manchester Airport for over 20 years as a cleaner, including a long stint in the VIP suite. Having visited the Rovers Return and commented on how "unclean" it appeared, Harry agreed to clean it for a few pints of beer and £10. Having made such a good job of it, landlord Fred Elliott took him on full-time. Soon Harry became potman and cellarman. He also cleaned at Underworld for Mike Baldwin, saving businessman Preston King from a heart attack at one point. He clashed with Frankie Baldwin when her husband Danny took over as a shareholder in Underworld, she teased him and labeled him 'Half Mast' referring to his surname. Harry eventually left the street to drive around the sights of Europe. He offered Eileen Grimshaw the chance to come with him, but she declined. During his time on the street he told Janice Battersby, that he had lost his daughter to leukemia at 21.
Jenny Sawyer wrote in the 25 July 2007 Christian Science Monitor that the books represent a "disturbing trend in commercial storytelling and Western society" in that stories "moral center have all but vanished from much of today's pop culture.... after 10 years, 4,195 pages, and over 375 million copies, J. K. Rowling's towering achievement lacks the cornerstone of almost all great children's literature: the hero's moral journey." Harry Potter, Sawyer argues, neither faces a "moral struggle" nor undergoes any ethical growth, and is thus "no guide in circumstances in which right and wrong are anything less than black and white."

Karl Foster
Chris Suellentrop made a similar argument in a 8 November 2002 Slate Magazine article, likening Potter to a "a trust-fund kid whose success at school is largely attributable to the gifts his friends and relatives lavish upon him." Noting that in Rowling's fiction, magical ability potential is "something you are born to, not something you can achieve", Suellentrop wrote that Dumbledore's maxim that "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities" is hypocritical, as "the school that Dumbledore runs values native gifts above all else."

Wilfred "Wilf" Morton was played by Rodney Litchfield. Wilfred arrived on Coronation Street with his granddaughter, Jodie. He called Dev Alahan "chief", which Dev took to be a racist comment. However, Jodie explained that Wilf was not good with names and that this was simply his method of addressing people informally. Wilf is an ex-jailbird with an extensive criminal record, mostly off the back of his tendency to take part in a quick scam - a trait that many members of his family have inherited. On discovering granddaughter Mel's plans to join the police, he claimed it was like "being stabbed". However, despite his former misdemeanours, Wilf does hold his family dear; realising that his past record may affect Mel (or "Melanie", as he insists on calling her) and her application to join the Police Force, Wilf "faked" his death on Father's Day, 2007, submitting a false obituary to the Weatherfield Gazette. This action led to Blanche Hunt and Deirdre Barlow believing he was, indeed, dead - with the former arranging her own wake (despite still being very much alive) as a result. Wilf's intentions towards Blanche are not yet known; while the two often bicker, Blanche was genuinely shocked when she believed Wilf to be dead, and Wilf has made several flirtatious comments towards Mrs. Hunt. Although he appeared to live with his son and grandchildren, Wilf has not appeared and has not been mentioned in several months, despite Jerry recently suffering a heart attack.

Jodie Morton was played by Samantha Seager. Jodie was the new owner of Diggory Compton's old bakery, along with her father Jerry. Jodie and her grandfather, Wilf, arrived on Coronation Street, in January 2007, to ask Charlie Stubbs why the re-fit on the bakery was taking so long. She found out he had been murdered, and asked Jason Grimshaw to continue with the re-fit. She also called Dev Alahan "cheesey" when he attempted to flirt with her. Jodie enjoyed recurring brawls with rival chippie worker, Cilla Battersby-Brown. Cilla said that Jodie had the body of her father, Jerry Morton, and the face of 'Jabba The Hut'. Cilla also called an exterminator and lied that "Jerry's Kebabs" was infested with rats. Jodie then retaliated by calling Cilla a liar and a 'fat face cow'. As part of the ongoing feud, Jodie took Chesney's dog Schmeichel and kept him in the family's garden shed later letting him go. Jodie had a brief romance with Lloyd Mullaney. On July 14, 2007, it was announced that she was to leave Coronation Street. She left the Street on 11 November 2007, after feeling that father Jerry had taken her for granted too many times and went to stay with a friend in London.

One such example was when Phil's hand was badly injured when David intentionally slammed it with a car bootlid. Another was where Phil pinned David up against a wall and threatened him

Emma Watts (nee Taylor) was played by Angela Lonsdale, who first appeared on 10 April 2000. Emma Watts was married to Norman (Curly) Watts on 24 December 2000 at the All Saints Church. They had one child named Benjamin born 26 December 2001 and lived at No. 7 Coronation Street. At the beginning she was credited as Sgt Emma Taylor, a police sergeant who helped solve the case when DC Simon Cavanagh was stalking Colette Graham and Curly Watts.

Curly Watts took her out for a night on the beach, asked her out to dinner, they started a relationship, and eventually he married her. They soon got divorced. On 12 October 2000, the police, including her, surrounded the Freshco's supermarket as a siege developed inside. When eventually they burst in, Emma shot the main gunman, Dean Sykes - who died in an ambulance on the way to hospital. Due to her licence to kill, a trial wasn't undergone (Dean had, in fact fired a shot and Emma had responded).

Curly proposed to Emma on a bateau mouche in Paris and they married on Christmas Eve, 2000, though their honeymoon to New York was delayed because Curly's daughter, Alice, couldn't return to Raquel when planned. Emma became pregnant shortly after their marriage and gave birth to baby Ben on Boxing Day 2001.

Emma started working with Partner Mick who was dating Janice Battersby. Les was very jealous and the two spent a lot of time winding each other up. Mick and Emma stopped Les in his taxi on a minor offence and after Les insulted Mick, Mick beat Les very badly but Emma promised to back him up even though Les did not really deserve the attack. When Curly found out, this caused a lot of tension and the two split up temporarily. Emma was feeling very guilty and planned to confess the truth to her superiors but at the last minute, testified and backed up Mick at Les's trial, causing Les to be imprisoned for 3 months.

Near the end of Les's incarceration, Emma was put forward for a promotion to Inspector in Newcastle. That would mean moving away and Curly was afraid he'd never see Ben. He swallowed his principles and in order to reconcile and still be able to live in peace, away from Les, they put Number 7 on the market and moved to Newcastle. The pair drove off into the night, Curly just managing to wave a final goodbye out the back window.

Lauren Wilson was played by Lucy Evans. She entered the show as Violet Wilson's younger sister, she had previously been working in Aya Napia in a bar called 'Man-unition', it was clear from the outset that straight-laced Violet did not get along with her wild younger sibling. Lauren became barmaid at the Rovers, and moved in as lodger with Eileen Grimshaw. Lauren had a relationship with Darryl Morton, but it was clear to everyone but Darryl that she was using him for money and free nights out on the town. Eventually Darryl stood up to her when she suggested he steal from his dad when he was out of money. Lauren immediately dumped him.

When Lauren was brought into the show the producers initially had high hopes for the character. However plans were scuppered when Lauren proved to be a extremely unlikeable character both in the viewers and the critic's eyes. As a result she was dropped from the show less than six months after her first appearance.

In the days leading up to her departure, she began to suggest to Sean Tully that they take a break together, although it was apparent that she was just trying to wrangle a free holiday out of him (especially as she had just lost her job at the Rovers and had no intention of paying the rent she owed to Eileen). Sean returned from the holiday alone, explaining that Lauren, as expected, had abandoned him immedietly upon leaving the plane once they'd arrived in Spain. She has now bagged herself a rich boyfriend and has no intention of returning.

Template:CSpast The following is a list of fictional characters that appeared in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street, departing between 2000 and the present.

Keith Appleyard

Keith Appleyard
Coronation Street character
Portrayed byIan Redford
First appearance4 April 2005
Last appearance30 July 2006
In-universe information
OccupationPaper deliverer/Taxidermist
SiblingsMarjorie
ChildrenAngela Harris
GrandchildrenCraig Harris
Katy Harris

Keith Appleyard was played by Ian Redford. Keith is the father of Angela Harris. When she and her family lived in Sheffield, she witnessed a murder. Keith persuaded his daughter to tell the truth and testify against the criminals at the trial, which resulted in the Harris family having to move to Weatherfield under the name of Nelson in witness protection.

Since moving in, Keith has started dating Audrey Roberts, who is his exact opposite in many ways. Keith is always watching the pennies, and has recently taken up a paper round to earn some extra money. His hobbies include taxidermy.

Keith is widowed, his wife having died between 2002 and 2005. Angela had telephoned her mother on Christmas Day 2002, but she had died by the time of Keith's arrival in 2005.

Archie Shuttleworth has returned to the Street, who left because Audrey turned him down with his proposal (he asked her to marry him), which left Keith feeling jealous.

After splitting up with Audrey because of his jealousy, Keith was enemies with Charlie Stubbs. After Charlie worked on some of Keith's house tiles but then Keith refused to pay as the bill was too expensive. Charlie decided to get revenge so removed Keith's tiles completely and said unless Keith pays he will put them back on. Keith rang the police but the police said it wasn't really a police matter.

One day, Keith was delighted when he saw Charlie putting the tiles back on the roof, thinking that Charlie had finally given up with his game. While having a drink in the Rovers, Charlie came in and told Keith, 'Well, I liked your roof so much that I decided to buy the house. Your landlord didn't take much persuading.' Keith blustered that the landlord would have told him but Charlie said that he asked Keith's landlord to leave that to him. Charlie's girlfriend Tracy Barlow was delighted.

Keith now says that if one day Charlie does chuck him and his grandson Craig out they have a nice home waiting for them in Sheffield. Craig has said that he doesn't want to go though as he lives in Coronation Street and he loves his girlfriend Rosie who lives there too.

One day, after Keith had an angina attack, the doctor told him it was a warning and things were going to have to change. So Keith told a shocked Craig that they were going to stay in Bournemouth with Keith's sister Marjorie.

Craig was determined that he wasn't to leave the street but Keith and Sally finally persuaded him in the end and they left the street. Keith later returned to the street when Craig ran away from Bournemouth and refused to returned there.

Because Todd could not choose between Karl and Sarah, Karl ended his and Todd's relationship.

Following the revelation, Martin, Sarah's adoptive father attacked Karl in the hospital corridor, which was captured on CCTV and later replayed to Martin when he was in the frame for murdering neighbour Tommy Harris the following year. When Todd's newborn son Billy died, Karl returned to Coronation Street to visit Todd. It was his final appearance on the cobbles to date. Joanne arrived at Underworld with her "twin sister" Jessie and proceeded to cause much amusement by claiming to be identical despite the obvious difference in appearance. Joanne was the shyer of the two and lacks confidence where men are concerned. Her crush, and subsequent date, with Nathan Harding came to nothing after she was left feeling stupid and embarrassed about having a make over for someone who wasn't really interested in her.

Following his nasty break up with Leanne Battersby, Jamie Baldwin was keen to ask Joanne out on a date. After a disastrous date the two realised that they did enjoy each others company and shared a kiss. This was followed by the promise to see each other again (unfortunately this was ruined by Jamie's problems with his alcoholic mother, Carol and they decided against starting a new romance so soon after his break up with Leanne). She was also gutted when Jessie was sacked from Underworld and left to become an air hostess.

When Kelly Crabtree took Joanne under her wing, Kelly's obsessed "friend" Becky Grainger threatened her, scaring Joanne half to death. When Kelly was set up for stealing at the factory by unhinged Becky, Joanne was the only person who believed Kelly was innocent and was instrumental in convincing the other factory workers that it was Becky, not Kelly who was to blame.

For most of 2006, Joanne dated Adam Barlow. However, she kissed her new factory boss, Liam Connor (who, incidentally, Adam sold his half of the factory to) and had a fling with him, despite Kelly being sure that Liam fancied her, she soon dumped Adam with a text message.

In April 2007 she revealed to Hayley Cropper that she was an illegal immigrant, brought over from Liberia at the age of 8, and that her "twin sister" is in fact her cousin, and was soon arrested as immigration officers raided the Factory.

In June 2007, Joanne was released from Immigration Detention and resumed her job at underworld for around two weeks, until Carla Connor, the majority owner of underworld, fired her claiming that the factory is over-staffed and that Joanne was the most recent employee, regardless of the fact she had worked at the factory for over three years previously.

After a couple of "dates" in the Rovers Return Inn, he invited Janice to go to France with him for three months and she accepted. Janice returned alone in March and he returned two months later. In 2007, he invested £10,000 in Janice's step-daughter Leanne's restaurant. Janice and Roger began living together because Roger was strugged to pay his rent, due to his loan to Leanne (which she eventually paid back). He saved the Barlows' kitchen roof when it was leaking in May 2008 and struck up a friendship with Ken.

In early August 2008, he, Janice, Bill Webster and Audrey Roberts all embarked on a booze cruise to France together, which ended in a minor car accident and whiplash for Roger.

It was announced in September 2008 that Roger would be leaving the soap the following month.[8]

In October 2008, Roger found out about Janice's Lottery scam after she was arrested by the police. Angry and ashamed that she had done such a thing, he packed up his van and left her.

ChildrenBen Watts

He was due to be born four weeks later, Violet and her boyfriend Jamie Baldwin intended to have him in London when they planned to escape the street because of Sean's involvement. After being born in the Rovers, Sean bonded with his son, and commented that when he was born, he looked straight a him and was stuck for words at the fact he was the first person his son saw. Jamie also bonded with Dylan, although found it hard due to the fact that Sean was his biological dad and was present at the birth. Dylan was named by his mother, his middle name is "James" after Jamie, Violet is keeping his last name as "Wilson" whether or not Jamie and her get married. Sean also brought up changing his last name to "Wilson-Tully" and Sean being registered as his father on the birth certificate - Violet and Jamie looked at each other with mild depression. Dylan left the street on 29 February with his mother, Violet, and his legal father, Jamie. Violet and Jamie decided to put Jamie on the birth certificate instead of Sean so Jamie can be Jamie can adopt Dylan and be his legal father, and so there start in London would be easier for both of them.
