(1012) Sarema is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on January 12, 1924 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth , who worked at the observatory on the Königstuhl near Heidelberg .

The asteroid bears the name of a character from a poem by Alexander Sergejewitsch Pushkin , which also served as a template for an opera .

Its orbit has a semi-major axis of 2.4805 and an orbital eccentricity of 0.1337. Thus it moves at a distance of 2.1489 ( perihelion ) to 2.8121 ( aphelion ) astronomical units in 3.907 a around the sun . The orbit is 4.037 ° inclined to the ecliptic .

The asteroid has a diameter of 21.12 km and an albedo of 0.430. It rotates once around its own axis in about 10.32 hours.
