(13031) Durance is an asteroid of the main belt , the September 26, 1989 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.

The asteroid was named on August 19, 2008 after the French river Durance , whose upper course forms the border between the Cottian Alps in the east and the Dauphiné Alps in the west and which flows into the Rhone just south of Avignon as a left tributary .
