(13253) Stejneger is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 26 July 1998 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid was named on May 27, 2010 after the Norwegian- born American zoologist Leonhard Hess Stejneger (1851–1943), who wrote more than 400 scientific papers, including on birds, reptiles and seals.
