(14074) Riccati is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 11 July 1996 at the Observatory San Vittore ( IAU code 552) in Bologna was discovered.
The asteroid was named on January 9, 2001 after the Italian mathematician Jacopo Riccati (1676–1754), who was best known for his studies of differential equations and the methods for reducing the order of equations .
