(15766) Strahlberg is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on January 22, 1993 by Eric Walter Elst at the European Southern Observatory .
It was named in honor of the Swedish officer and geographer Philip Johan von Strahlberg , who explored the geography and nature of Siberia from Tobolsk between 1711 and 1721 .
