The Rosenlächer bell foundry (until 1804: Rosenlecher ) was a traditional Konstanz bell foundry that cast numerous bells for important churches. Among other things, she made the bells for the Freiburg cathedral from 1843, which rang in the cathedral until 1959.

history

The Rosenlächer family of bell founders lasted for seven generations for 250 years and was founded around 1650 by Johann Leonhard Rosenlecher I (1602–1673), who came from Meißen , with the fief of the Constance foundry. It was successfully continued by three descendants of the same name and also resident in the city. The foundry of the Rosenlächers in Konstanz was in the Hirschgraben 282 (today: Obere Laube 40-42). It dates from 1599 and was sold in 1769 to the caster Leonhard Rosenlächer III at a price of 400  florins . This sale was made with the proviso that the foundry would be preserved forever and the city had the right to have its cannons cast there. In this bell foundry not only bells and military equipment were made, but also fire engines . The Emmingen fire brigade procured a fire engine in 1780, and another went to the Petershausen monastery around 1792 .

Three more descendants followed, of which Carl Leonhard (1802–1860) is best known: He poured over 700 bells. His son Karl David Josef (1835–1901) had major economic problems, also went blind and in 1883 handed the foundry to his brother Josef Alexander. It was closed in 1900 and demolished in 1905.
