(1904) Massevitch ( 1972 JM , 1949 JH ; 1951 XN , 1958 YES ; 1962 CE , 1965 YH ; 1971 BF ) is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 9. May 1972 by Tamara Mikhaylovna Smirnova in the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory was discovered. At the suggestion of the discoverer, it was named after the Russian astronomer AG Massewitsch (1918–2008).
With the simultaneously named asteroid (1905) Ambartsumian (1972 JZ) AG Massewitsch's former mentor, Prof. Viktor Ambarzumjan , was honored.
