(2160) Spitzer ( 1956 RL ; 1956 SJ ; 1966 RN ; 1971 UV 1 ; 1976 SX 2 ) is an asteroid of the outer main belt , which belongs to the Koronis family and was founded on September 7, 1956 as part of the Indiana Asteroid Program at the Goethe- Link Observatory was discovered.
designation
The asteroid was named after Lyman Spitzer, Jr. (1914–1997). He was director of the Princeton University Observatory from 1947 to 1979 .
