(28878) Segner is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on May 26, 2000 by the Slovak astronomer Peter Kušnirák at the Ondřejov observatory ( IAU code 557) in the Czech Republic .

The asteroid is named after the mathematician , physicist and doctor Johann Andreas von Segner (1704–1777), who was born in Bratislava and who developed the water wheel named after him and who was responsible for building the university observatory in Göttingen and the Halle observatory .
