content
The Transcendental Meditation (TM) established by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has been an unparalleled success story. The young director David is also looking for inspiration. David's idol, the great director David Lynch , assures that TM is also the source of his creativity. David takes him at his word and approaches the transcendental meditation impartially with a sometimes shocking naivety. He undergoes expensive meditation training, receives his personal mantra and tries his hand at yogic flying.
Soon, however, he recognizes contradictions in the TM organization and does critical research into the background of the organization that has become a billion-dollar industry. Maharishi dies suddenly, now there is a dispute over his successor. As a result, David Lynch becomes the main international TM ambassador. The Indian gurus, who were very cooperative at first, now want to stop the shooting. When David begins to visit TM renegades , the organization behaves downright hostile, Lynch even threatens to file a lawsuit against the film team.
David travels to the USA and India to visit the Hindu monastery Jothir Math , where TM founder Maharishi is said to have received his ordinations. There his successor tells him that Maharishi was a crook who did not have the right to spread his meditation teachings. He sends David to the source of the Ganges in the Himalayas , where he finds his own truth.

Reviews
"Without exaggerated polemics, but with a clear eye for dogmatic and commercial excesses, the film drafts the protocol of a sobering 'search for meaning' in an illuminating and entertaining way."
“[David Sieveking] has made a clever, self-deprecating and at the same time extremely revealing film out of the process of his slow awareness. The yogic aviators should not be exactly happy with this PR success. "
“'David wants to fly' teaches you to be amazed at how far the hunger for meaning lets people in the West go. For David Sieveking, it is not the Himalayas, but the Teufelsberg in Berlin that turns out to be a holy place - the very secular German capital is not completely lost to eternal truths either. "
