(3109) Machin is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on February 19, 1974 by the Czech astronomer Luboš Kohoutek at the Hamburg observatory ( IAU code 029) in the Hamburg district of Bergedorf .

The asteroid was on 4 May 1999 by the British designer of coins and stamps Arnold Machin named (1911-1999), the 1964 used for the new Dezimalmünzen England's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed from the UK. This design was also used in the British postage stamps that have been issued since 1967 until today (2014).
