(31189) Tricomi is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 27 December 1997 by the Italian-American astronomer Paul G. Comba at Prescott Observatory ( IAU code 684) in Prescott , Arizona was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the Italian mathematician Francesco Tricomi (1897–1978), who dealt with analysis , especially differential equations . The asteroid was named on March 28, 2002.
