(36800) Katarinawitt is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 28, 2000 by the German amateur astronomer Jens Kandler at the Drebach observatory ( IAU code 113) in Drebach in the Erzgebirge district .
The asteroid was named on July 21, 2005 after the figure skater Katarina Witt (* 1965), who achieved two Olympic victories , four world championship titles and six European championship titles for the GDR and is one of the most successful figure skaters in history .
