(4273) Dunhuang is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 29 October 1978 at the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing was discovered.
The asteroid was named on August 4, 2001 after Dunhuang , an oasis town on the Silk Road in Gansu Province in western China .
