(4341) Poseidon is a near-Earth asteroid of the Apollo type , which was discovered on May 29, 1987 by the American astronomer Carolyn Jean Spellmann Shoemaker at the Palomar Observatory . As an earth orbit cruiser, it carries a certain risk of impact on earth.
The heavenly body is named after Poseidon , the sea god in Greek mythology .
