(5202) Charleseliot is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on December 5, 1983 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť observatory ( observatory code 046) near the town of Český Krumlov in southern Bohemia .

The asteroid was named on July 2, 2015 after the American professor of chemistry , author and editor Charles William Eliot (1834–1926), who served as President of Harvard University for 40 years .
