(5259) Epeigeus is an asteroid belonging to the group of Jupiter Trojans . This describes asteroids that move around the sun on the Lagrange points on Jupiter's orbit .

(5259) Epeigeus was discovered on January 30, 1989 by the American astronomer Carolyn Jean Spellmann Shoemaker at the Palomar Observatory . It is assigned to the Lagrangian point L 4 .

The asteroid is named after the mythological figure of the Myrmidon Epeigeus , a henchman of Achilles who was killed by Hector in the Trojan War .
