Ángel Luis Ríos Matos

Ángel Luis Ríos Matos (born October 5, 1956 in Aguada , Puerto Rico ) is a Puerto Rican clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop in Mayagüez .

Life

Ángel Luis Ríos Matos received his training at the Secular Institute of the Missionary Brothers of Charity and studied philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and theology at the Pontifical University of Xaveriana in Bogotá . On January 11, 1985, Bishop Ulises Aurelio Casiano Vargas donated him the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Mayagüez .

In addition to various tasks in pastoral care and a degree in canon law , which he completed with a doctorate , he was responsible for youth and vocational pastoral care . At times he was spiritual director of the Cursillo movement and professor at the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico . He was a member of the college of consultants and the commission for the social security of secular clergy and judge at the diocesan court.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Mayagüez on May 9, 2020. The episcopal ordination received his his predecessor Alvaro Corrada del Rio , SJ on 1 August of the same year in recreational and sports palace Palacio de Deportes Recreación y Germán "Wilkins" Vélez in Mayagüez. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of San Juan de Puerto Rico , Roberto Octavio González Nieves, OFM , and the Bishop of Ponce , Rubén Antonio González Medina CMF .
