Årsteinen (the Årstein) is an island of the Norwegian municipality of Vågan in Fylke Nordland and belongs geographically to the Vesterålen archipelago , but politically, for historical reasons, to Lofoten . The sound of Raftsund , which separates Lofoten from Vesterålen, begins here in the west of the island. The southern tip of Norway's second largest island, Hinnøya, is in the north, only separated from Årstein by a narrow channel.
The homonymous estate in the south of the island was abandoned at the beginning of the 21st century. It can only be reached by boat or via a footpath that crosses the island in the middle. Today there are only a few houses and a horticultural company on the island, which can be reached via a gravel road that was built on the east side of the island.
