Émile Seeldrayers

Émile Seeldrayers , also Emiel Seeldrayers (born January 24, 1847 in Ghent , Belgium , † May 21, 1933 in Brussels ), was a Belgian lepidopterist and football functional as well as genre painter and illustrator of the Düsseldorf school .

Life

Seeldrayers began his artistic training in Ghent. On November 7, 1867, he enrolled in the class of antiquities at the Munich Art Academy . In the years 1870 to 1875 he attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There were Karl Mueller and William son 's teacher. He also took private lessons from Hermann Knackfuß , Eduard Ireland and Julius Roeting . From 1875 to 1878 he was a member of the Malkasten artists' association . He later returned to Belgium and lived in Ixelles and Brussels. As an illustrator, he created pictures for works by Camille Lemonnier .

Seeldrayers was the father of Rodolphe William Seeldrayers , born in Düsseldorf in 1876 , the fourth president of the world football association FIFA , and father of Art Nouveau architect Fritz Seeldrayers (1878–1963). Both sons were avid footballers . In 1894, Émile Seeldrayers became chairman of the Ixelles Football Club (Union FC d'Ixelles) . As such, he is one of the pioneers of football in Belgium . Except for the painting and the football he was interested in entomology and was a member of the Société royale d'entomology de Belgique . In 1896 he published on the butterfly species Cymothoe cloetensi and Graphium aurivilliusi .
