Austrian women's run

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Austrian Women's Run is a running event in Vienna that is only open to women. It has been taking place since 1988. Until 1991 it was held in the Laxenburg Palace Park , from 1992 to 1996 in the Vienna Prater , 1997 and 1998 in the Vienna Donaupark and since 1999 again in the Prater. The route has been 5 km long since 1999, and a 10 km route has also been part of the program since 2003. In 2020 the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

The Austrian Women's Run was invented by Ilse Dippmann, who got to know this idea in 1986 during the New York Marathon. In order to motivate the runners and prepare them for the competition, free running training for women is organized at over 50 locations as part of the women's run. Most of them take place in Vienna and Lower Austria under the motto Fit in 12 weeks , in Burgenland , Upper Austria , Styria , Salzburg and Carinthia there are also women's running training courses that are held once a week in the 12 weeks before the annual women's run. Also in Slovakia there is a running training with currently three groups.

statistics

With around 33,000 female athletes (as of 2015), this is the second largest running event in Austria.

In 2017, female athletes from 99 nations took part in the 30th edition of the event.
