kkStB 40

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The kkStB 40 series of steam locomotives were freight train locomotives with a tender of the kkStB , which originally came from the Lemberg-Chernivtsi-Jassy Railway (LCJE), the Galician Carl Ludwig Railway (CLB) and the Bohemian West Railway (BWB).

A hitherto unknown number of these machines, which were used on the Romanian lines of the LCJE, came to the CFR .

These machines were procured by the Galizische Carl Ludwig-Bahn (CLB) from 1859 to 1864. Suppliers were the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik and Sigl in Vienna . They formed the rows  IIIa, b, c , with the lower case letters meaning other kettles.

When the CLB was nationalized in 1892, the kkStB classified the remaining machines as 40.51–65 . The machines were equipped with 18 series boilers. The table shows the dimensions of the new boilers. The 40.57 received a "corrugated fire box" and a matching boiler, the dimensions of which are given in the table as the second value. The different boiler types also resulted in different steam pressures in the locomotives. The decommissioning of these vehicles began in 1892.

From 1861 to 1872, the BWB procured 30 triple-coupled machines for freight traffic. The machines were initially supplied by Sigl in Vienna and later by Maffei in Munich . The machines supplied by Sigl were given the series designation  II and the numbers 4–8, 16–25 and 27. The Maffei machines were series  III with the numbers 28–41.

After nationalization in 1894, they became kkStB 40.70–99 .

After the First World War , some machines came to the BBÖ , but were withdrawn without being included in the BBÖ numbering scheme. Ten copies came to the ČSD , which gave them the series designation  312.4 and retired them by 1931.
