Şabanözü is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Çankırı . The place is about 30 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Çankırı . It is home to around two thirds of the district's population (2018: 65.3%).

The district is located in the south of the province. It borders in the northwest on Orta County , in the north on Korgun County , in the east on Eldivan County and in the south on Ankara Province . Şabanözü is connected by country roads with Orta in the north, Eldivan in the east and Çubuk in the south. The Şabanözü Çayı (also Çekük Deresi ) flows through the city and the district from north to south, and flows further south into the Sey Çayı (also Terme Çayı ). It is dammed about five kilometers northwest of the district town to the Karaören Göleti . Two other lakes are three and five kilometers southwest of the city, respectively. In the south of the district is the 1287 meter high Sarıkız Dağı .

The district, formed in 1944, consists of the district town and 18 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 272 residents. Küçükyakalı is the largest village (594 inhabitants). The population density is slightly above the average for the province.
