Kurşunlu is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Çankırı . The place is about 40 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Çankırı . Kurşunlu is on the railway line that runs from Bartın on the Black Sea to Kayseri . The city and the district crosses from west to east the European route 80 , which leads from Edirne via Istanbul to Erzurum and the Iranian border. Other connections lead on country roads in the southwest to Korgun and in the north to Araç .

An earlier name of the place was Karacaviran. On the medieval map Tabula Peutingeriana , which shows the road network in the late Roman Empire, the place is recorded as Anadynata. In Kurşunlu is the probably Byzantine fortress Andinata, also Kurşunlu Kalesi.

district

The district is located in the northern center of the province. It borders in the east on the Ilgaz district , in the south-east on the district Korgun , in the southwest on the district Orta , in the west on the district Atkaracalar , in the north-west on the district Bayramören and in the north on the province of Kastamonu (district Araç). The River Devrez Çayı flows from southwest to northeast through the district, it flows further east into the Kızılırmak . It has several tributaries in the area of the district, from the south the Karaçoban Deresi , the Ilıca Deresi and the Kışla Deresi , as well as smaller tributaries from the north. About three kilometers west of the district town lies the Büyük Göl lake ( Turkish for "large lake" ), which despite its name is only 250 meters in diameter . Part of the Ilgaz Dağları mountain range with the 1961 meter high Davas Tepesi runs through the north of the district .

In 1987 and 1990, the district gave over half of its territory to the newly created districts of Atkaracalar and Bayramören. The last census before the change of area (1985) documents 33,869 inhabitants, of which a total of 14,846 inhabitants (i.e. 43.8%) were later given up.

In addition to the district town, there are 27 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 203 residents in the district. Sivricek with 603 inhabitants is the largest village. The population density is just below the provincial average.
