district

The district is located in the center of the province. It borders Eldivan and Şabanözü counties in the south , Kurşunlu county in the northwest , Ilgaz county in the north, and the central county in the east .

The district runs from north to south, running from İnebolu on the Black Sea via Kastamonu and Çankırı to Kırıkkale . A country road connects Korgun in the west with Kurşunlu. The city is located on the railway line that runs from Bartın on the Black Sea to Kayseri . The Maruf Çayı river has its source in the southwest of the district, takes in a small tributary that has its source in the Kayıçivi Barajı reservoir , and flows into the Tatlı Çayı coming from the north near the district town . This is dammed , about seven kilometers south of Korgun, near the village of Karatekin to Sari Barajı , continues through the provincial capital and finally flows south of it into the Terme Çayı . The district belongs to the eastern part of the Köroğlu Dağları Mountains , the highest mountain is the 1560 meter high Erenler Tepesi in the north.

In 1990 the district was split off from the western part of the central Çankırı district. Until then, Korgun was a separate Bucak in this district and had 10.091 inhabitants at the 1985 census. In addition to the district town, the district also consists of 12 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 282 residents. Maruf is the largest village with 802 inhabitants. The population density (11.2) does not even reach half the provincial average of 28.7 inhabitants per square kilometer.
