Orta is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Çankırı . The place is about 40 kilometers west of the provincial capital Çankırı . An earlier name of the place was Karıpazarı . The place is connected in the south by a country road with Şabanözü, in the north with Atkaracalar and Çerkeş.

The district is located in the southwest of the province. It borders Çerkeş , Atkaracalar and Kurşunlu districts to the north, Şabanözü district to the southeast and Ankara province to the southwest . Orta is located on the Devrez Çayı River . This is dammed in the west near the village of Kayıören to the lake Güldürcek Barajı and has several tributaries in the district. This includes from the south of Eğerlik Deresi and from north of Halilöldüren Deresi .

The district was formed in 1959 and consists of the district town (around 20% of the district's population) and another municipality ( Belediye ): the larger Yaylakent (6,141 inhabitants). The district of Orta also has 25 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 411 residents. That is the highest average number of inhabitants per village in the province. Dodurga is the largest village (1,405 inhabitants).
