Žeteoci

Žeteoci ("The Harvesters") was the most famous sacropop band in Yugoslavia . It existed from 1965 to 1971, when all four members were studying Catholic theology at the University of Zagreb .

The music of the Žeteoci consisted mainly of cover versions of pieces from the New Spiritual Song . The Žeteoci gave concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Canada and the USA.

In April 2007 the Žeteoci performed together again at a festival in Varaždin.

Members

Mijo Bergovec (born May 12, 1945 in Hodošan , today part of the Donji Kraljevec municipality , Međimurje County ) played the organ with the Žeteoci . After initially studying theology and philosophy, he studied medicine at the University of Zagreb from 1970 to 1975, after which he worked as a doctor. In 1988 he went to Hamburg-Eppendorf University Medical Center for further training and research . Since 2000 he has been professor of cardiology in Zagreb; he published numerous scientific articles. He heads the Zagreb Medical Choir.

Valent Bogadi (born January 29, 1946 in Vrhovec Bednjanski , today part of the Bednja municipality , Varaždin County , † January 2, 2009) played guitar . He was ordained a priest in 1971 and worked in Sveta Nedelja , Grubišno Polje and Sveti Križ Začretje . From 1982 to 2001 he lived in Toronto (Canada), where he looked after a Croatian Catholic parish. From 2001 he was a clergyman in Varaždinske Toplice . He was only added after the band was founded and replaced the retired Josip Pustički.

Mato Dukić (born March 12, 1944 in Bučje , today part of the municipality of Pleternica , Požega-Slavonia County ) played the bass guitar . He was later a religion teacher in Prigorje Brdovečko ( Brdovec municipality near Zaprešić ) and then employed by Caritas . Now retired, he leads a church choir in Brdovec (as of 2018).

Mijo Gabrić (born September 25, 1943 in Radovanje , today part of the Oriovac municipality , Brod-Posavina County ) played drums . He was later a clergyman at the cathedral chapter in Zagreb , where he was forcibly retired in 2019 in connection with financial irregularities.

Before the band was founded, all four had sung in a college choir under the direction of Albe Vidaković .

Records

The Žeteoci have recorded a long-playing record and a single. Both plates were sold jointly by Jugoton and Glas Koncila .

To nije tajna

The LP To nije tajna was published in 1968 and had the order number Jugoton ULPV-S-7 . It achieved high sales figures, the first edition of 10,000 copies sold out after just a few months. There were three editions, each with a different cover design. All texts are printed on the back of the cover.

The single Majka Marija (1971, order number Jugoton USD 114) was recorded by the Žeteoci together with the pop singer Arsen Dedić . It contains the pieces Majka Marija and Majko Božja Bistrička .
