(10071) Paraguay is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 2 March 1989 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid was named on November 25, 2015 after the South American country Paraguay , which borders Brazil , Argentina and Bolivia and which gained independence in 1811 .
