(10947) Kaiserstuhl is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery was made as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory ( IAU code 675) .

The asteroid was named on May 1, 2003 after the Kaiserstuhl , a small low mountain range of volcanic origin in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg (Germany).
