(15808) Zelter is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on April 3, 1994 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian state observatory in Tautenburg ( IAU code 033).
It was named in honor of the German composer , conductor and music teacher Carl Friedrich Zelter (1758–1834), who set numerous poems by Goethe to music . In 1809 he founded the first Liedertafel in Berlin .
