(16513) Vasks is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 15 November 1990 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) in Chile was discovered.

The celestial body was named on June 13, 2006 after the Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks (* 1946), who is one of the most famous composers from the states of the former Soviet Union and who was accepted into the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2001.
