(17506) Walschap is a main belt - Asteroid , which on 4 April 1992 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 809).

The asteroid was named after the Flemish writer Gerard Walschap named (1898-1989), who as a representative of the Catholic - humanist expressionism became known and the 1929 published novel Adalaide established his reputation.
