(19226) Peiresc is an asteroid of the main belt , on 15 September 1993 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory ( IAU code in 809) Chile was discovered.
The asteroid was named on January 25, 2005 after the French humanist , scholar and art collector Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc (1580–1637), who discovered the Orion Nebula in 1610 .
