(2248) Kanda ( 1933 DE ; 1944 FA ; 1949 BD ; 1949 DG ; 1958 XC 1 ; 1974 SO 4 ; 1974 WE ; 1975 XX 5 ; 1977 FY ) is an asteroid of the outer main belt that was released on February 27, 1933 by the German Astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth was discovered at the State Observatory Heidelberg-Königstuhl on the Königstuhl near Heidelberg ( IAU code 024). The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .

designation

(2248) Kanda was named after Shigeru Kanda (1894–1974). He worked at the Tokyo Astronomical Observatory from 1920 to 1973 and was a leading figure in amateur astronomy in Japan, and has published on observations of asteroids, comets and variable stars as well as the history of Chinese and Japanese astronomy. He wrote several books and began publishing the Kanda Circular for amateur astronomers in 1926 . He later founded the Kanda Astronomical Society , which then became the Japan Astronomy Study Group .
