(2506) Pirogov is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on August 26, 1976 by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).

The asteroid is a member of the Koronis family, a group of asteroids named after (158) Koronis .

(2506) Pirogov was named after the Russian surgeon and pedagogue Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogow (1810–1881), who was one of the founders of field surgery .
