(2657) Bashkiria is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 23, 1979 by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).

The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .

(2657) Bashkiria was named after Bashkortostan , a state in the eastern part of European Russia, formerly known as Bashkiria .
