(29137) Alanboss is a main inner belt asteroid discovered on October 18, 1987 by the American astronomers Carolyn and Eugene Shoemaker at the Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675) in California .
The asteroid was named after the American astrophysicist and astronomer Alan Boss (* 1951), who made important contributions to the formation of gas giants and binary star systems and is currently working on the recognition and characterization of habitable, earth-like planets nearby .
